Our client realised that despite routine maintenance the redundant Drilling set on their production platform was slowly degrading to a point where it could potentially become unsafe in the future, subsequently DSL were contracted to remove the redundant 147’ Derrick and associated equipment from the asset in the North Sea.
Due to the time of year the work has been challenging with detrimental weather conditions slowing progress, however despite this our crews managed to remove the Crown, Gin Pole, Guide rails, racking board, wind walls all traveling equipment, electrical systems and the top 63’ of derrick structure.
During weather downtime our operatives worked with the client on other Integrity workscopes on the asset so there were minimum Non-productive hours expended for DSL personnel.
DSL will be returning to the Asset in 2022 to remove the remaining structure down to sub-structure elevation to complete the work-scope. A structural analysis of the derrick was completed to ascertain the removal sequence to maintain structural integrity, the work was executed utilizing the floating pole methodology mitigating the need for additional heavy lift resources. The scope to date has been completed without the use of a crane and in a safe controlled method.
